BONASTRE takes pride in its ethical standpoint and is committed to an eco-responsible approach for each bag from design to production.
BONASTRE takes pride to contribute to the safeguarding of an ancestral European craft: luxury leather goods. It is a beautiful challenge to support and bring this traditional know-how into the modern world.
Both tanneries and production are local and the leathers are recovered from local food industry waste. Tanning is the process that saturates the hides, making the leather flexible, rot-resistant and suitable for use in leather goods.
The modern leather industry uses a chemical tanning process based on chromium. Chromium is so contaminating that it is a real humanitarian and environmental disaster.
Since its creation in 2011, BONASTRE choses to work with vegetable tanned hides, a traditional process based on vegetable natural tannins of tree bark as mimosa, chestnut and oak.
BONASTRE’s workshop is also concerned about the well-being of its craftsmen and the Planet we live on : it uses renewable energies for its operation as well as water or starch-based manufacturing products. Last but not least, tthe lining of the bags as well as the protective bags are made of 100% recycled cotton.
